Good Security Practices

Simple habits that keep your business safe. Slow down — spammers want you to act first and think later. If a message conveys urgency or high-pressure tactics, be sceptical.

General

Secure your devices — lock the screen when away. Tip: press Win + L
Install anti-virus software, firewalls and email filters — and keep them up to date
Slow down. Never let a message's false urgency rush your careful review

E-mail

Always check the recipient — call them to be sure it's really them
Contacts can be compromised — their emails may not be safe
Don't click suspicious links; delete emails you no longer need
Don't open unexpected attachments, even from known senders
Use tools like VirusTotal to check URLs or files

Passwords

Never use the same password everywhere
Use long passwords with upper & lowercase letters and special characters — no pet names or “123”
Change passwords regularly and never give them out
Use two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever possible

Your Data

Be cautious how much personal information you share publicly on social networks
The more that's public about you, the easier you are to attack
Beware of callers or visitors asking lots of questions
Never write passwords on post-its — screen, drawer or keyboard
Use encryption when sending important data
